Thank you for *the* definitive Barbenheimer discourse I’ve been looking for!! reflected much of my own feelings especially critiquing the phenomenon itself & how it’s reductive to pit these two movies against each other

Fave quote: « Murphy just kind of put his hand on his hip that one time. (Which, to be clear, was hot of him.) »

i feel like you can't really fault greta for the explicit critique of tradwives (barbies when Barbie returns to kendom) going over the heads of real tradwives, but i very much agree that america's monologue was the most heavy-handed part of the movie for me in a way i didn't care for. catnip for all the women who screencap jo march's "women" speech but always cut out the final line.

and agree on the focus on ryan gosling because, although pitch perfect, it was margot who anchored the whole movie. he wouldn't have worked without her!!

on oppenheimer i have little to add except for: david krumholtz making tiny little oppenheimer eat a tiny little orange

for sure! i honestly don't blame greta for any of the insane opinions people have about this movie. america's monologue is definitely a little women rip-off and COMPLETELY unearned for the character. i saw barbie again today and i think i've decided that the whole thing could've been improved if the mother-daughter plot line had been cut entirely, but c'est la vie.

and absolutely yes re: ryan!!! and extremely interesting considering that ken literally says he was created to be with barbie

KRUMHOLTZ <333333
